Volume LXXI No. 10 October 2019 www.acbldistrict22.com/522/NAP2019Q.htm 559-225-0505 FALL SECTIONAL October 4-6 It’s only a few days until our fall sectional, Friday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday have open and 499er games at 10 am and 2:30 pm, except for Saturday morning, which has a 199er game instead of 499er. Friday evening has Fast pairs, which requires speedy play to finish about 9 pm. Sunday is the traditional two session Swiss teams starting at 10 am. There are two events: open teams and 499er teams, with lunch between sessions. We’ve invited popular tournament director Scott Campbell of southern California to be in charge. If you need a partner, call Mary Lou Pease at 288-2340 (or email marylou121@comcast.net). ONE DAY 750 SECTIONAL Plan to attend our one day 750 Sectional on Tuesday, November 12. The afternoon game is limited to players with under 750 points. The evening game is for players with under 300 points. It’s another chance to win some silver points. Kay Chrisman (285-4605) is partnership chairman. PLACES and FACES Farid Assemi was fourth in the All Western pairs at the Santa Clara regional. Richard Meffley was tenth in the All Western pairs. Our condolences go to his family. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019, 3:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Country Club. Treasurer’s report Not much to report. On months with tournaments or fund raisers, we are in the black a little. On mon ths without them, we are in the red a little. We are no longer bleeding badly. In October we will have a tournament, which is good, because we are about to have another expenditure, but nothing we can’t handle. Good luck to all who play in the Fall Sectional Tournament, and those who buy raffle tickets. These efforts help us keep going. NORTH AMERICAN PAIRS Those who qualified for the NAP at a club game in June, July, or August are eligible to play in the unit finals on Sunday, November 10. Qualifiers at the unit stage may play in the District 21 finals. Flight B is ember 23. Flights A and C are next year. Mun Takeda will teach Part 2 of Defensive Signals on November 13 at 10 am and November 14 at 6:30 pm. Defense can be the hardest part of the game. It’s important to know how to give defensive signals and even more important to understand partner’s signals. POKER NIGHT Poker night has been canceled for this month. Wait’ll next year. We’re still selling raffle tickets where you could win ten free games or a $100 shopping card. You need not be present to win. The drawing for the prizes will be during our annual Christmas party on Sunday December 8. October is Club Appreciation month. Each session will has scheduled two club appreciation championship games in October. It’s your chance to pick up lots of masterpoints. We may be repeating this message every month because everyone still doesn’t get it. In every movement of five or more tables, when the round is over, the boards go to the next lower table until they get to table one. The boards DO NOT go to some empty table in the middle of the room. It is NOT the director’s responsibility to move the boards. It is the players’ responsibility, which means the North player should do it. OAKHURST WINNERS Ken Doig and T.
