It’s been five months since we’ve had a pro-am team game, one of our favorite activities for our Sunday games. We’ll start off with a pot-luck lunch at noon, followed by the team game at 1 p.m. As we’ve done in the past, we divide the players into four pools according to master points. Then we draw teams: one player from each pool makes up a team. You’ll likely play with a new partner or partners for the day. It’s fun, and there’s no telling which team will win.
If you can’t come for the pot luck lunch, be sure to arrive by 12:45 so we can figure out how many teams are playing and get the team drawing under way.

KEEP THE GAME FRIENDLY
One of the main reasons we lose new players is because they perceive that we are not friendly, in fact downright unfriendly. What do we do that is unfriendly? We fail to greet our opponents with a simple hello; we seldom introduce ourselves to players we don’t know, and we tell our opponents things they don’t want to hear. The first two are easy to correct. Several years ago I played with the president of the ACBL. He introduced himself and me to every opponent, every round.
We want to keep the game on time, so we ask you to limit conversations. But many of us finish way early, so there is time for a short “discussion” of the hand. This is not the time to complain to your partner about his bad bid or play. Never ask “Why did you do that?” Keep your discussion with your partner to constructive ideas, not destructive ideas. Most of your opponents come to have a good time. Don’t ruin it for them by mentioning errors they made. Fred Hamilton says he makes one error per tournament, but the rest of us make an error every hand. Don’t tell your partner that you would have done better except that your opponents did something weird that confused you. Don’t give any lessons, suggestions, advice, or help unless the opponents request your advice. They didn’t come to a bridge class; they came to a friendly bridge game. When we exit an airplane, the flight attendant tells us that they know we have other options, and we’re glad you chose us. Bridge players also have other options. Don’t give them a reason to choose another option.
