FRESNO FALL SECTIONAL
Richard Meffley wins President’s Award
June Oeser wins 99er Award
Congratulations to Richard Meffley, who won the President’s Award by winning two events and placing in the others. Maggie Mahaffey was second, placing in all events but  one.  June Oeser was the top 99er, finishing second in two events. Jonel Mueller was second, just .08 master points behind.
Thanks to Jackie Finn who organized all the hospitality and prepared the Sunday lunch.  Thanks also to all our members who signed up and brought food for our hospitality table. Thanks go to our tournament director Scott Campbell from the Riverside area, who always does a fine job keeping the tournament running smoothly. Attendance was only six tables less than last year, when we had four days. If you take out Thursday from last year, attendance was up about twenty tables. Thanks again to Mary Lou Pease, who made sure everyone had a partner.
Thanks to all who came to the tournament.

UNIT NEWS
BOARD NOMINATIONS
As usual, our annual election of the board of directors concludes at the Unit Christmas Party on December 10.  Now is the time to nominate yourself or another member to be on the board for 2018 and 2019. Just contact Nominations Chair Mary Lou Pease or any board member before Thanksgiving or write the name and put it in the nominations box at the bridge center.
Save up your cash for January; we’re planning a new version of our auctions of “pros.” If you bid high enough, you can play with one of our top players.
PLACES AND FACES
At the Reno Regional, Jim Sweet and Bill Glass were second and third in the side games. Farid Assemi and Ed Wojewoda were third and fourth in two Daylight open pairs.  Congratulations!
Anthony Toto is now a Silver Life Master, with over 1,000 master points. Walt Kelso and Sandy OwYoung-Chu are now club masters. Margot Cegielski is now a junior master. Well done!
Get well wishes go to Pat Huston.

We’ll pick your team for you.  We try to make each team as equal as possible so everyone has a chance to win. Each team has at least one Life Master, who may give out a few bridge tips if you ask.

There are three flights: open, under 2,500 mp,and nonLm (under 500 mp). Those who quaify may play in the District 21 finals in January or February. The top three pairs in each flight play in Philadelphia in March 2018. Qualifiers are iisted at the Bridge Center or click PAIRS above.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Don Austin
We are now paying a reasonable rent payment for the Bridge Center. While I can’t say it was fun, it was much easier to write a check for $4450 than what it had been: $5790. It will take a few months for us to see the impact on the books, but the projections are that we can remain financially healthy for the next five years and possibly beyond.
Don’t get too complacent, though. We may need to do some fundraising to pay for carpet replacement. And before you know it, we will need to be considering what we will do when this lease runs out.
The Fall Sectional was well attended but the monetary impact won’t be recognized until next month. I hope all who played had a good time. Marion and I were only able to play in the Swiss Teams, but we had enjoyed it. Remember to play nice and encourage new players.

FROM MAGGIE
I want to thank everyone for the care and concern when I was “not myself” the last two months. What a great feeling to have such support. I’m doing great – my doctor is happy – so I’m happy.
Maggie
