Volume LXVII No 8 Non-LM SECTIONAL August 8-9 We’re having our 14th annual this month. To be eligible, you must not have over 500 master points and not be a Life Master. It’s a great chance to win silver points without playing against LMs. We’ve scheduled four pair games - at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day, with a free lunch and bridge lesson at about 1:30, Kay Chrisman will direct the tournament. If you need a partner, call Mary Lou Pease at 559-288-2344 or e-mail marylou121@comcast,net. Laura DaCosta is the tournament chair. Invite your friends to play in this fun weekend. For those with 10 points or less, the 10 am game on Saturday is free. LESSONS Laura DaCosta will start at the beginning with lessons for newcomers on Saturday, September 12 at 9 a.m. These lessons start at the very beginning, focusing on bidding and play. The beginning series lasts about nine weeks. If you know some friends who want to learn bridge, these are the lessons to get them started. All newcomers are welcome. UNIT NEWS Thanks to all who contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association. We raised almost $600 between the games and the donations. The Pro-Am team game was a big success, with nine teams playing. Maggie Mahaffey, Lynn Green, Rhonda Hampton, and Marge Field were the winners. We’ll have another pro-am team game on September 20. There are still many people who love playing bridge at home or in their own groups. We’re inviting them all to come visit our bridge center on Saturday, August 22, at 1 pm. It’s a chance to see our club and see how much fun we have. They will play bridge, but not duplicate. We’ll arrange partners for those who don’t bring partners, but we expect many will come in groups of two or four or more. Please invite your friends to come for an afternoon of bridge.
