Volume LXVIII Number 12 CHRISTMAS PARTY ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION Sunday December 11 The year is almost over – but there’s lots of bridge in December. There’s Sectional Tournament at Clubs (STAC) week, ending with the STAC game on Sunday December 11 at 1 pm. Our annual Unit Christmas party starts at noon before the STAC game. Jackie Finn will prepare the main course and coordinate the rest of the dinner. We’ll have dinner for all, followed by our Annual Meeting. Balloting for Unit board members ends on before the game. Some of our club owners will also hold Christmas parties. Be sure to attend them. ELECTION Please vote for up to five candidates. The candidates are: Gay Berry is our parliamentarian and Sunshine chairman. She also is the assistant Secretary, preparing minutes of all our meetings. Laura Da Costa is unit Vice-president and sectional tournament chairman. She teaches beginning bridge on Saturday mornings, directs the Wednesday evening Unit game, and runs two afternoon games. Sally Eatherly is our membership chairman, keeping records of all our members up to date on the Fresno Bridge Center’s computers, and keeping up the roster. Mary Lou Pease is in charge of a lot of activities to keep bridge alive (our new slogan). She teaches beginners on Saturday mornings, and as Marketing chairman, she’s contacted the Bee and other organizations, finding creative ways to let everyone know about us. Deb Petersen is our Computer Graphics expert, preparing notices and signs for the bridge center. She also is the one to contact if you want a free updated copy of the Unit roster. Just send an e-mail and she will e-mail the roster back to you. Also on the ballot is an amendment to the By-Laws. The new and amended by-laws will be posted at the Fresno Bridge Center and on-line. The amendments to the Bylaws include: the addition of an education component to the Mission Statement; a correction in the information for termination of membership that is in line with ACBL guidelines; a rewrite in the number of board members necessary to conduct unit business which allows for more flexibility; numbers mentioned are now written in word and numeral for clarity; a quorum will now consist of fifty-one percent (51%) of the total number of directors needed to conduct a board meeting; and, various typo, spelling and grammatical corrections. It is hoped the membership will agree with the changes to the Bylaws and vote “Yes” for their inclusion. LESSONS We’re starting a series of nine free lessons, starting at 9 am on Saturday January 14.
