Volume LXXII No. 6 http://www.acbldistrict22.com/522 FRESNO BRIDGE CENTER REMAINS CLOSED The Fresno Bridge Center will remain closed until we believe it is safe to play bridge at tables again. We will have masks, hand sanitizers, gloves, and whatever other protections are needed to keep you safe. In the meantime, Bridge Base Online (BBO) has many options for online play. Watch your email from ACBL to learn of any special games. WIN SILVER POINTS on BBO Sunday May 30 is the last day of the online triple silver point games run by local clubs. Fresno players may play at the Desert Cities Bridge Club (DCBC) for $7.50. Just get on BBO, be sure you have a payment account, find the DCBC game under Virtual Clubs, ACBL – North America, click the game and invite your partner. On May 31 they have open game at 9:45 am and 6:30 pm, and a 750 game at 1:45 pm. They normally have games every day at 9:45 am and 1:45 pm for $6. The Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday 1:45 games are 750 games. The Saturday 1:45 game is a 299er game. BBO offers games individual games against robots several times a day. It has IMP pair games starting on the hour throughout the day. It has regular match point pairs fifteen minutes after the hour most of the day. All these games pay ACBL master points and cost less than $2. To support clubs, it has three pair games each day for $5 and one robot individual for $6. You can start the robot individual any time during the day. All these games pay ACBL master points. Just look them up under ACBL World on BBO. | We’ve heard comments that there is cheating on BBO. Certainly it’s easy to phone your partner during play. BBO has algorithms to detect cheating, and they notify ACBL. Several players have been disciplined for cheating. OTHER NEWS STAC games have been canceled for the rest of the year. Normally they are in August and December. With clubs playing online only now, it’s not possible to coordinate results from many different online clubs. Congratulations to new regional master Jonel Mueller and new junior master Matthew Wilkins. Welcome to new member Lucas Newman. We are saddened to report that Fran Guagliardo passed away. She was the wife of Matt Guagliardo, a former Fresno Unit president who almost single-handedly brought the NABC to Fresno in 1980. Matt still lives here. Fran was a talented artist who worked on the 1980 NABC and drew the cover of the restaurant guide and several other items for us. If we re-open in June, we will have our annual Graduation Party and Pro-Am pairs on Sunday June 28. LONGEST DAY This year the Longest Day is celebrated on June 20 or 21. This is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. You can contribute on line or play at the DCBC on BBO. We’ll have more information on our website later. You can donate on line by looking up Alzheimer’s Association Longest Day. Click on “search” and enter 522 in the search by participant. |
